5 Reasons God Doesn’t Answer Your Prayers
Come and hear, all you who fear God, and I will tell what he has done for my soul. I cried to him with my mouth, and high praise was on my tongue. If I had cherished iniquity in my heart, the Lord would not have listened. But truly God has listened; he has attended to the voice of my prayer. Blessed be God, because he has not rejected my prayer or removed his steadfast love from me!
So now I, the Lord, warn them that I am going to bring destruction on them, and they will not escape. And when they cry out to me for help, I will not listen to them.
What are we to make of such passages? Will God always hear our prayers or not?

What, if anything, might result in God rejecting a prayer? For an answer, I turned to the Questions Answered devotional. God sees, hears and knows everything—including our prayers. Nothing escapes his attention. There are several possible reasons. In this case, God did not respond because judgment was unavoidable.
Why Doesn't God Answer My Prayers?
Their cries were too little, too late. God even told Jeremiah not to pray for the people see Isa —12 —that not even Moses and Samuel could have persuaded him to offer further compassion to them see Isa The Bible mentions several attitudes and actions that can short-circuit our prayers: sin see Ps ; Isa ; Jer —12 , disobedience see Pr , hypocrisy and insincerity see Isa ; Mal —9 , wrong motives see Mt —6 ; Lk —14 ; Jas , lack of faith Heb ; Jas and even marital problems see 1 Pe Finally, what sometimes appears to be no answer to prayer may actually be a delayed answer see Da — Other times God may deny our request in order to give us something better than what we knew to ask for.

The important part to focus on here, though, is that our requests have to be in accordance to His will. And things look a LOT different from His perspective than from ours. God is not a genie, prayer is not a magic spell, and God does not answer to us as though we were His boss, giving Him orders! If you are using your prayers as a way to test whether or not God is real, is good or can be trusted, those are not God-honoring prayers.
If you are using your prayers only as a way to get ahead personally or to make your life more comfortable or pleasant — all the things you want — without taking the time to consider the causes God would have you pray for, those are not God-honoring prayers.
