Learn about the context and meaning of this passage. Offer yourselves as a living sacrifice to God, dedicated to his service and pleasing to him. Also, calling Mel a "human sacrifice" felt equally disturbing at times. Despite these minor flaws, I thoroughly enjoyed myself. I'm definitely going to read more from this series. By the way, did I mention how amazing the epilogue is? Two children had better be enough.

Ladies, from the words of my amazing boyfriend, if a man is willing enough to cut his dick for you, that's a clear indication that he truly loves you. View 2 comments. Apr 27, Marta Cox rated it really liked it Shelves: my-reviews. Three and a half As a reader of paranormal romance I've seen quite a lot of advertising for this series and with its bright eye catching covers it was only a matter of time before I took the plunge. Plus Dragons! Oh yes this was definitely pretty high on my book radar.
Essentially it's the story of Melanie offering herself for six months to a Dragon in the hopes of becoming pregnant. Her payment is a vial of magical Dragon blood that she hopes will cure her dying brother. Very little is explained Three and a half As a reader of paranormal romance I've seen quite a lot of advertising for this series and with its bright eye catching covers it was only a matter of time before I took the plunge. Very little is explained as to why the Dragons need human females so it could simply be birth rates of Dragon females are declining or even a distinct lack of fertility but for whatever reason Melanie will have the option of staying after her contract expires or leaving her child behind.
Tristan is a broody guy with very little reason to trust or indeed even like humans but reluctantly agrees to step up and try to help perpetuate his clan. His attitude to Melanie right from the start is less than welcoming but his inner Dragon has a completely different opinion of her leaving Tristan well and truly stumped! Hmm I could see that the author tried hard to make Tristan a jerk but honestly he didn't seem that bad.
Melanie is clearly supposed to be strong and feisty but to this reader she just came across as normal but then again I am used to kick ass urban fantasy heroines. I didn't like that Melanie is portrayed as almost saintly as she goes around offering kind words, a friendly shoulder and even a pat on the head not kidding!
Yet I really like Tristan's Dragon. What can I say? So often shifters have an inner beast that they communicate with but here the author gives us that but she gets down to the nitty gritty. The Dragon has base instincts and doesn't understand subtlety or compromise. He's a bull headed animal that struts about like a demanding toddler!
All he understands is freedom, flight, hunting, eating and with Melanie around the need to protect and procreate! Yes cue many instances of "mine" and frequent rutting! I do think the ending made this a worthwhile read for me as until then the romance wasn't working for me. Happily we meet the couple about seven months later by then I could believe that they had worked through things and truly found love.

It wasn't exactly what I expected if honest but I'm sure there will be many readers who enjoy these Dragons and the situation they find themselves in. Let me start off by saying this book was trash However, it was also impossible not to finish. I was fascinated with it the way people are with a car wreck. The obsession with her weight is annoying. Why can't you just have a plus size The pnr trope of inter species hatred is very hard to pull off for me and this one didn't manage it. The hero is verbally and physically abusive. He never so muc Let me start off by saying this book was trash He never so much as apologizes just flips a switch.
Heroine is told that since she's a mate match she better consent or she'll get raped. All sex scenes All female authors should know better than to use any version of the phrase "own that pussy" in any way other than mockingly. He shows no care for any pain he causes her and banging giant dragon dick constantly for a week straight isn't going to be fun. He bites her clit "hard" without even asking which a ow and b isn't something you do without consent because There's near zero world building and though the gender dynamics are never explored women are dehumanized and patronized the whole book.
The writing was functional but every part of this book was abusive, rapey, or otherwise cringeworthy. So why did I spend several hours on it knowing as I did by chapter two that I had zero interest in this series, author, or book? View all 6 comments. Mar 19, Kelly rated it it was ok Shelves: heroine-i-had-issues-with , dragons , boring. First time read from author Jessie Donovan. The story was a bit boring for me. I really thought the concept of the story sounded really good but the execution of the story was not. Melanie the heroine just wasn't that exciting nor made the story even interesting.
She was lame. I mean her character could of been 10 times from exciting if she would of put up more fight, had same attitude, something, anything. Tristan's the hero character seemed OK but when i had to hear his "inner dragon" talk First time read from author Jessie Donovan. Tristan's the hero character seemed OK but when i had to hear his "inner dragon" talk I was really thinking wtf?

Does the dragons even age with their person or they stay 10? And when Tristan and his dragon would talk to each other I just couldn't fully get on board with the story. May 08, Erica rated it did not like it. Pedestrian and laughable story and characters There was literally nothing redeemable about this book. To save her little brother, she sells herself into prostitution. And of course her parents whom she loves so much but are never really referred to again just stand on the front steps of her confinement and pat her on the head as if she won't be dying in the next year. I did find myself laughing but that was more because of the pathetic writing than because of anything actually entertaining goin Pedestrian and laughable story and characters There was literally nothing redeemable about this book.
I did find myself laughing but that was more because of the pathetic writing than because of anything actually entertaining going on in the book. From the creepy, voyeuristic, stalker "dragon" in his head, to his energy-giving semen, to her "stubborn" streak, it was mundane, boring, unimaginative and I am unable to put into words what a waste of time it was. Wait, there was a high note: when it finally ended and it wasn't in any way a cliffhanger, making sure there was absolutely no draw whatsoever to read the rest of this horrid series. Nov 18, Abby rated it it was amazing.
If I'm being unbiased, this book is probably a 4. But it has dragons and I get to be biased. So I almost cried at work- stars! If you love dragons, go read this book. My Thoughts - 5 out of 5 Unicorns - for the entire serial!! Awesome and I loved it all : Part One Okay I always start with the things I think people need to know or would like to know. This is a 4 part serial.
Serials are not my favorite when it comes to reading; however, I loved reading this one. Considering the length of this, the author did a phenomenal job at showing me this new world and hooking me on the story. It usually takes My Thoughts - 5 out of 5 Unicorns - for the entire serial!! It usually takes me 2 or 3 parts of a serial before I really like the world and series. Melanie is an awesome lead.
She is smart and will do anything for her family. She also will not be pushed around by a grumpy prejudiced dragon shifter. I do this a lot when given a copy. This is under 50 pages and a quick read. Not sure if this means short story or novella, but really does it matter. Serials are like a TV show where you have an episode worth of stuff going on. That being said some authors do this better than others.
I like the way Jessie does it, but still secretly wish it was a whole novel length book because I really like this world. Tristan…oh Tristan…one minute I love you and the next I want to slap you, so you are just like a real man : lol I really like Bram because he is honest and tells it like it is. I really hope this becomes a series of novels because I want more of this world that Jessie has created : Of course, I do love my shifter books. Things you may want to know, this is a serial novella series.
What does this mean? This means you must read them in order or you will be lost. Also this episode is only about 50 pages. I have read several serials now, and Jessie does a fantastic job of meshing them together and stopping at place that makes sense and feels right. I love her fighting spirit, but she is also caring and kind. Part Four Definitely an awesome conclusion to the serial, and I loved every minute of it. Melanie is an amazing woman and my favorite kind of female lead. Tristan is now an awesome man that I no longer feel needs to be slapped.
The Sacrificial System – Leviticus | Grace Bible Church
Jessie is a phenomenal writer who makes the story come alive. I just hope we will still get to see my favorite characters from this serial and updates on the family. Aug 21, Dominika rated it liked it. It was my first time reading about dragon shifters and I quite enjoyed it.

Melanie Hall is sacrificing herself to the dragon shifters to have a baby by Tristan MacLeod one of the dragon shifters. Her brother Oliver is dying and Dragon's blood will heal him. The Dragons are on the brink of extinction because they have been hunted and killed and they have low fertility rates Melanie has been paired with Tristan who hates humans. His mother was brutally murder and tortured by Dragon Hunters. His sister Arabella was tortured but she escaped before they could kill her. The last thing he wants is to be order by there Clan leader Bram to have sex with Melanie and produce a dragon baby.
Ok the story has a very good HEA but it lacks the Dragon's world building and development and character develop. The banter was coy and not funny. Why must the women being sacrificed, Not be a virgin. All the sacrifices I have ever heard of were pure virgin sacrifices. So that didn't make any sense. The story just lacked roots and depth. It just needed more storyline development. There is a lot of dirty talk or I guess you could say sexy talk. I think the author was trying to write erotica but missed the mark by a mile.
Erotica is not just talking dirty but descriptive action of the sex act itself. All in All I will read the next story. But I must admit I am glad this was a freebie on Amazon. Sep 01, Lexie rated it really liked it Shelves: ebooks-owned-read. So right off the bat let me admit to some trepidation. It sounds very PWP plot what plot erotica, not romance. However, multiple candidates have been disqualified.
The Temple Institute, an organization dedicated to preparing the reconstruction of a Third Temple in Jerusalem, has been attempting to identify red heifer candidates consistent with the requirements of Numbers —22 and Mishnah Tractate Parah. The Institute has been raising funds in order to use modern technology to produce a red heifer that is genetically based on the Red Angus.
In September , the institute announced a red heifer candidate was born saying "the heifer is currently a viable candidate and will be examined [to see] whether it possess[es] the necessary qualifications for the red heifer. And when Moses said unto his people: Lo! Allah God commandeth you that ye sacrifice a cow, they said: Dost thou make game of us?
He answered: Allah forbid that I should be among the foolish!
They said: Pray for us unto thy Lord that He make clear to us what cow she is. Moses answered: Lo! He saith, Verily she is a cow neither with calf nor immature; she is between the two conditions; so do that which ye are commanded. They said: Pray for us unto thy Lord that He make clear to us of what colour she is. He saith: Verily she is a yellow cow. Bright is her colour, gladdening beholders. He saith: Verily she is a cow unyoked; she plougheth not the soil nor watereth the tilth; whole and without mark.
They said: Now thou bringest the truth. So they sacrificed her, though almost they did not. Ibn Kathir explains that according to Ibn Abbas and Ubaydah, it displayed the stubbornness of the Children of Israel, who asked unnecessary questions to the prophets without readily following any commandment from God; had they slaughtered a cow, any cow, it would have been sufficient for them but instead as they made the matter more difficult, God made it even more difficult for them.
The non-canonical Epistle of Barnabas explicitly equates the red heifer with Jesus. In the New Testament , the phrases "without the gate" Hebrews and "without the camp" Numbers , Hebrews have been taken to be not only an identification of Jesus with the red heifer, but an indication as to the location of the crucifixion.
Some Fundamentalist Christians believe that the Second Coming of Jesus Christ cannot occur until the Third Temple is constructed in Jerusalem, which requires the appearance of a red heifer born in Israel. Clyde Lott, a cattle breeder, is attempting to systematically breed red heifers and export them to Israel to establish a breeding line of red heifers in Israel in the hope that this will bring about the construction of the Third Temple and ultimately the Second Coming of Jesus. The red heifer was also considered sacred to the Greek god Apollo.
In it Hermes steals Apollo's red heifers and then hides them. To escape Apollo's rage, Hermes creates the lyre. Geryon , the mythical three-bodied creature slain by Heracles , had red cattle, according to Pseudo-Apollodorus , which Heracles stole as his tenth labor. The red heifer is the official mascot of Gann Academy , a Jewish high school located in Waltham, Massachusetts.
