No doubt this book has been partially created by the very business ethos it espouses. A book group for writers intent of finding fellow-travellers to help promote their own work for the least possible cost and effort, while gaining the most credit personally by doing so.
It helps to create the atmosphere within which such whisperings of greatness and self-deprecation can be played one against the other on each and every level. The mystery tha People love their conspiracies, and here is the proof. The mystery that is no mystery, but merely a blank the human mind wishes to fill with its own existence. The opponent that is not an opponent but another self — co-conspirator, co-worker, co-dependent urge and repulsion. Overall the tale can carry you if you allow it. Personally the pretentions of dramatic push rather than subtleties of real challenge left me disappointed.
It is becoming a more common feeling with many modern books. And a reason I am also less interested in running writing groups than I used to be. For all the vast capacity of human endeavour we have become too boringly monotonous. Jan 02, Grady rated it it was amazing.
A Highly Successful Suspense Novel with a Spiritual Core One always wonders if a novel written by two writers can succeed; many feel that such books may be a 'too many cooks spoil the broth' situation. The characters they develop are painfully realistic despite the at times supernatural mist in which some of them walk and the history of the main character is so well painted that his journey for the Third Q is particularly meaningful by book's end. Zoro Montana is a down and out unemployed man living in the Bronx with complex psychological baggage: he feels responsible for the death of his brother Joey and the subsequent suicide of his father on the day of his brother's funeral, he holds guilt for not supplying his wife Gina with income, and he is ready to start a new job as a limo driver for a strange and very wealthy man named Max who lives in a mansion decorated with strange mystical murals.
Max is kind and offers to change Zoro's life if he will just follow his advice.
The Snowflake Method For Designing A Novel
In Max's words ' Everything we lose is a stone in the road, Zoro. And you need to face the stone, pile them up, and maybe even use them to build a road toward the answers and away from the pain.
You can always find reasons to give up, but Zoro, you can also find just as many reasons to go on. The authors place some eloquent words in the mouth of Max. It is less tangible, for it is the place that transcends the physical and mental world. There is a stream of consciousness in the world that is vibrant and alive. And the third world, Zoro, is made up of that essence, that very energy of life. We've come to understand it as an infinite place where our souls go. It is the boundless space between everything tangible. Every brain cell at the genetic level can build Third-Q circuits.
Encountering a novel that has as many aspects of science and spiritualism and religion and intrigue as this novel are rare today. This is a very well composed drama, and while the verbiage could stand some polish and editing at places, the book never fails to maintain a keen grasp on the reader's imagination and interest. One thoughtless choice… Completely lost, Zoro begins to wonder if this all there is to life. Maybe, he is just a loser. Immediately, his thoughts turn to his brother. That fateful day, Zoro starts a new job as a driver for a wealthy man. Max is unlike anyone that Zoro has ever met. More so, from this man, Zoro comes to understand how self-sabotage and his own unconscious beliefs have been holding him back. The Third Q is part mystery novel and part self-help book. We follow Zoro as he learns about his mind and the limitations he has placed upon himself.
Of course, we all have a bit of Zoro in us and thus in him see our own self-limitations.
